Coke stains on carpet – the best removal tips

You are enjoying the party…. OOPS!  The coke drink ends up on the carpet! It’s dark brown, sticky and full of sugar: a perfect combination for a sticky stain. Get into action right away and no one will ever know that something was spilled there. Don’t stress, with just a few easy steps you should be able to get the coke stain out of the carpet without much hassle. For all other types of stains, this article on removing stains from a carpet might be useful.

How to remove coke stains from carpet is easy… once you have the right “recipe.” The stain is caused by the colouring dyes within the drink – but that is not all. The most important thing is that you are pulling the sugar from the coke out of the carpet because leaving a trail of sugar can attract ants, cockroaches, or unwanted creepy-crawlies.

Assemble your supplies near where the coke stain is on the carpet so you can work quickly and efficiently. Be sure to get to the stain right away and not let it sit for a long time, or it will be harder to remove.

What you will need:

  • Rubber cleaning gloves
  • 2 white terry cloth towels
  • In a bowl you will mix:
    • 1 Tablespoon of dish soap
    • 1 litre of water
  • A vinegar and water solution
    • 1 part distilled white vinegar to 3 parts water in a spray bottle

Step 1 - Get the Spot Out

Take one of the white towels and soak in the dish soap bowl.

Blot the spot and rinse the towel in the bowl as many times as you need to so that the stain disappears.

TIP! Make sure you work from the outside towards the centre to avoid spreading the stain even further. Do not press too hard because you do not want to work the coke stain deeper into the fibres. Avoid scrubbing the stain as this will only set it further.

Step 2 – Rinse with Vinegar

Use your vinegar mixture to spray the area to remove the soap residue.

Take the other white towel and blot the area. Repeat 3 or 4 times to make sure the soap is gone.

Step 3 – Let it Dry

Let it dry for several hours – or better yet overnight.

Vacuum up any residue.

If this is an older stain you may need to repeat this process several times.

This “how to get coke stains out of carpet” method will work on all carpets and you can use the same method on upholstery or fabric as well.

All set! Enjoy the party!
